Flutes
The word Choroi comes from Greek and means “Sing, dance and play”.
The instruments arose in the 1960s through a meeting between musician Norbert Visser and the social therapist Geert Mulder and subsequently included several different musical instruments that are manufactured by various workshops around Europe.
More and more people became interested in the Choroi instruments and during the 1970s and 1980s they began to be used mainly in Waldorf schools and in anthroposophical music therapy.
Telleby Verkstäder in Järna has been responsible for the entire Choroi flute production since 1969 and today the flutes are exported all over the world. The Choroi flutes are made from carefully selected materials such as pear wood, maple wood and cherry wood.
They offer a fantastic opportunity for musical exploration and development for both adults and children. The flutes are used, among other things, in schools and preschools, where the beautiful and soft sound that lives in the wood makes them well suited for playing together.
Several of the flutes are specially adapted for certain age groups. By playing the flute, the children can practice interaction and fine motor skills, and the result is almost always beautiful, regardless of the children’s skills.
The flutes are available both with a diatonic scale, the “usual” scale in Western music, and pentatonic, a five-tone scale, which is found in traditional Chinese, Japanese, African and American music, for example blues. There are flutes that are tuned to both 440 Hz and 432 Hz, with the latter currently attracting increasing interest.
